I recently discovered that "tread" has a secondary meaning. In addition to describing a way of moving, it also refers to birds doing it. More specifically, a male bird copulating with a female. For example, one could say, "Big Bird TROD Snufflelupagus all night long."
Wait... Is Big Bird a male bird? Regardless, enjoy the destruction of your youthful innocence!

Also, I watched a male red-tailed hawk tread a female (I assume) atop a church steeple yesterday. Never before have I so badly wished for my camera.
