Today is Groundhog Day

It is also my 1/2 birthday. Yes, I know I am way to damn old to still celebrate 1/2 birthdays, but I still do so every year. One reason is because it is also Groundhog day. The other reason is because it helps me keep track of my brother's birthday, which is in two days.

So happy Groundhog day! I hear that Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow, which means an early spring.

For those of you not familiar with the tradition of Groundhog day, this is where we rely on a ground dwelling rodent to tell us the weather, which as it turns out is far more accurate than the guys on the news.

So is it Goundghog OR Groundhog? The title and the contents of the post do not match....but what do I know. I am just an ignorant foreigner....

Thanks for the explanation of this strange day you guys celebrate in the U. S. of A. I watched the Bill Murray film once -- while of course the narration and the time loop aspects were interesting on their own, I found it that the whole concept of this tradition is extremely odd. But somehow quite fascinating. But then again: I am just an ignorant foreigner.

The correct spelling is "Groundhog". Thank you for pointing out my bad spelling.

I hate that feeling you get after Groundhog Day. Kind of blue, and empty. It's so anticlimactic. You look forward to it for 364 days, and then it's gone.

I too celebrate my half-birthday, and there is no shame in that.

But my 1/2 birthday kicks your 1/2 birthday's ASS.

Cinco de Mayo, baby!!!

also, you ought to hyphenate ground-dwelling.

Jamwall: Woo.

Lilly: The film was on TV constantly yesterday, which I guess is Groundhog's Day (observed) for Comedy Central. Great movie. And a really weird tradition.

Spinner: Nice. Nothing like a heavy-drinking pseudo-holiday for your half-birthday.

All: Thank you for helping out Booty with his spelling and punctuation. It helps free up the rest of our schedules.
