History of the day for November 18

In 1973, in a televised news conference, Richard Nixon said that "people have to know if their president is a crook. Well, I am not a crook." Reflecting the deference journalism showed the presidency at the time, the TV crews did not air his 15 minutes of uncontrollable laughter that followed.

Now that would have been some good TV. I can't even remember Nixon ever laughing. Did he have one of those laughs where the air passes through the nostrils in little staccato bursts?

I think when Nixon laughed, he kept his front teeth together so it sounded like, "ss sss sss sss sss sss sss". I always find that fetching.
