History of the day for October 25

In 1762, John Montagu, the fourth Earl of Sandwich, spent so much time gambling in London pubs that he had his servant get him some meat between two slices of bread so he wouldn't have to leave the table to eat. Thus he invented what is now called "compulsive gambling."
