In 1600, the night before the opening of Hamlet at the Globe Theatre, Shakespeare finally falls into a fitful sleep. He dreams himself as Hamlet, reciting a brilliant and unforgettable soliloquy. Jolting awake at three in the morning, he scribbles the speech onto his wall before he forgets. In the morning he finds his walls covered with nonsense phrases about asking his mother for a new toothbrush. He decides to just go with the "To be or not to be" soliloquy instead.

question for Bootsy- is there software similar to photoshop that's less expensive? I'm dying to get it.
AP: there is a program called gimp that I use on my mac. It's got all the same stuff that photoshop has and it's free. of course, it's also as complicated as photoshop is, but that's a separate issue.
The deal with gimp, though, is that it is a unix-based program that requires you have another program on your mac called "xwindows". xwindows is on your installation cd, but doesn't get installed autmotically.
As Jiggs said, Gimp is free, but it requires you to install some optional software from your OS install CD's. You can get it (and instructions) here:

Alternatively, Adobe offers a student version of Photoshop that i think is only $100 or so, and is a full fledged version. You can probably get it from your school's bookstore or something, even though you are a recent grad.
Did we mention that Gimp was written at Berkeley, so that makes it that much cooler. :)
you guys are the best!!!!! I just got this G4 powerbook a few months ago and i don't remember it coming w/ OSX software. I bought microsoft for mac and installed that. its telling me i have to buy os tiger or something like that. do i need to buy the tiger to get gimp?
I don't have microsoft for mac, so I don't know about that.
I bought my computer about a year ago and it had the necessary stuff to get the gimp going, though.
To be honest, it pains me a little to know that you use microsoft for mac. OS X (tiger) is a far superior operating system once you get used to it.
the only reason i got it was so i could use microsoft works and Word. Also, I need to be able to open word attachments in e-mails. Can I uninstall it? Since I've graduated i've decided that I'm never writing another paper again.
I found the cd's!! I have 2. Hopefully, gimp will give me instructions. It's going to be a long night :-)
I did it! I got my very own gimp. now, i have to go to ebay and find the book that will teach me all about my new friend.
