The France

I just had the following conversation, and I thought it was funny:

her: should i accept "The Vatican City" as a correct answer?
me: i would accept "the vatican city". for the same reason i would accept "the united states". i mean, you can't say "the france", but it seems like any country with more than one word (like "the soviet union") is ok

I just like the idea of "The France". and "The Spain" and "The Germany".

I don't believe The Hague is a country name. I think its an administrative region or something. Good try though! :)

Booty's upset about The Hague, but we got a no-call on "The Mississippi", whose pocket are you in?

I didn't say anything about The Mississippi because she said herself that it isn't a country. And don't get me wrong, I was only calling Brooke out to defend myself, not to dis Brooke in any way.

Don't worry, I still think Brooke is hot, both intellectually and physically. And every other girl that reads this blog, too.

Oh the irony -- if only we were surrounded by so many beautiful women in real life, we wouldn't have to spend so much time on the Internet. :) (No offense to the few beautiful women who actually do hang out with us in real life).

Ok, my girlfriend pointed out two things to me:

1) Why would I need any beautiful women hanging around when I have her?

2) Although The Hague is not a country, The Netherlands is a country that is a single word that you can put "The" in front of. However, I contend that my theory still holds, because the offical name is The Kingdom of the Netherlands* which is multiple words.

There must be some written rule about this. Somebody find it.

Does this rule stand for movie titles too?

The Chronicles of Riddick

The Matrix

The Brokeback Mountain

Nevermind

It's not The Mexico, although the official name is The United Mexican States.

I just find it interesting that the official name of Mexico is so close to ours.

"Poor Mexico. So far from God, so close to the United States."

The Republic of Estonia

where all the women are beautiful.

Funny, that's similar to what we say here in Florida about Miami - "such a beautiful place to visit, and so close to the United States."
