LA's first modern Latino mayor

The AP headline was exactly that: L.A.'s first modern Latino mayor takes office

What's a "modern Latino"? Could it be that the mayor was like James Joyce or possibly part robot? Maybe he was associated with a men's fashion magazine called "modern Latino"?

Towards the end of the article, they finally reveal that a "modern Latino mayor" meant that Antonio Villaraigosa was the first Latino mayor since 1872. Which, while being an extremely cool thing for LA, is disappointing because I wanted the mayor to be part robot.

Then the part-robot mayor of LA and governor Schwarzenegger could battle it out in a futuristic, post-apocalyptic setting ala Arnold's smash hit sci-fi action movie Jingle All the Way!
